Seacology will soon begin nine new projects around the world, including our first in the nation of Uruguay! These new partnerships with island communities will protect more than 7,500 acres of sensitive marine and forest habitats and will fund vital infrastructure and other community needs.

Federated States of Micronesia: Peidie Village
Protection of 79-acre mangrove area for 50 years, in return for funding for a covered outdoor playground and community meeting space

Fiji: Nabubu Village
100-acre marine no-take zone and 500-acre rainforest reserve for 15 years, in exchange for renovation of village school and teachers’ quarters, water tanks, and solar power system

Indonesia: Mekarjaya Village
Protection of 4,638 acres of rainforest (including replanting 326 acres of it) for 15 years, in return for rice-processing machinery and building

Madagascar: Macolline Reserve
Protection of 25-acre rainforest preserve for 30 years and environmental education, in exchange for repairs to cyclone-damaged environmental education center

Malaysia: Dagat Village
Protection of 550 acres of rainforest for 15 years, in exchange for a grant for a sustainable livelihood initiative

Malaysia: Long Liam Village
Protection of 371-acre riparian forest reserve for 15 years, in exchange for a micro-hydro electricity generating system

Mexico: Isabel Island National Park
741-acre no-fishing zone around protected island for at least 18 years, in exchange for mooring buoys and lobster shelters

Philippines: Manamoc
Protection of 272-acre Caseledan Lagoon for 25 years, in exchange for a multipurpose community center

Uruguay: Nuevo Berlin
Mapping of invasive trees to be removed on islands in the Uruguay River, in exchange for honey-extracting equipment and GPS
