After hurricane, cabana in the Bahamas is rebuilt

September 12, 2013

This month, workers in the Bahamas’ Fowl Cays National Park (FCNP) successfully rebuilt a cabana destroyed by a hurricane late last year.

The cabana is part of our project to help Bahamas National Trust (BNT) manage two of the country’s national parks. We provided funds for cabanas and signage to be installed in FCNP and Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park (PCLSP), with the cabanas to be used by visitors as a rest stop and information center.

Both cabanas were completed by August 2012, but when Hurricane Sandy hit just months later, the cabana in FCNP was destroyed. (The one in PCLSP was undamaged.) The new structure has been designed to be stronger than its predecessor, and so should withstand future hurricanes.
