Play for the Mangroves wins Green Sports Alliance award
Play for the Mangroves, our unique program that combines support for youth sports with mangrove education and conservation, just received the Community Impact Award from the Green Sports Alliance!

The award recognizes actions that make a tangible difference for communities, reduce inequality, and contribute to positive social change. We think that’s a great description of Play for the Mangroves, which has helped thousands of island kids play their favorite sports while becoming stewards of their local wetlands. Program Coordinator Ismael Diaz accepted the award on behalf of Seacology at the 2025 Green Sports Alliance Summit in Miami on June 12.
“We are deeply grateful for this recognition, but the real credit goes to the kids and communities who’ve made Play for the Mangroves what it is,” said Diaz. “What began in a small corner of Peravia [in the Dominican Republic] has grown into a movement touching lives across the DR, Jamaica, and the Philippines. This award belongs to them.”
The Green Sports Alliance is a coalition of nonprofits, professional sports teams and leagues, equipment manufacturers, and others that aim to bring greater sustainability to the sports industry worldwide. Seacology became a member last year.
