Support islands and islanders this Giving Tuesday

November 28, 2023

When I’m looking for organizations to support on Giving Tuesday, I ask myself “where will my support do the most good?” I want to know that my gift will go directly to a cause I support, through a nonprofit with a record of success.

If you’ve had the same thought, I hope that on this Giving Tuesday, the international day of charitable giving, you’ll consider making a gift to Seacology. We are a cost-effective organization that helps island communities conserve their forests and reefs.  Our win-win approach has led to more than 400 successful projects in 68 countries. And we rely on donors who care about island environments and cultures, like you.

 We concentrate on islands because:

  • Countless unique species have evolved on islands, but unfortunately, many of them are at risk of extinction. A staggering 80% of recorded species extinctions have occurred on islands.
  • Low-lying islands are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, at severe risk from storms, floods, and other disasters.
  • With limited economic resources, island communities are often forced to choose between protecting their environment or meeting their basic needs.

Seacology works with the people most affected by these challenges to enact effective, efficient, and durable solutions. From Madagascar to Malaysia, we’ve helped island communities develop sustainable livelihoods, obtain green electricity and clean drinking water, fight clear-cutting and poaching, and so much more.

Every gift we receive today, large or small, will make a real difference for islanders around the world. You will be directly supporting islanders’ efforts to protect their homes, their ways of life, and the natural resources they rely on.

Thanks so much for your interest in Seacology and for considering a donation. We hope you’re enjoying the holiday season and wish you all the best in the new year.

Gratefully,

Duane Silverstein
