We’re happy to report that Seacology’s first-ever crowdfunding campaign was a success! The $16,000+ raised will fund our new project to save parrotfish on Isla Providencia, a Colombian island in the western Caribbean. Providencia is home to several species of parrotfish rare in the Caribbean, and in part because of the presence of these ecologically important grazers, its reefs are among the healthiest in the region.

Our project is working to educate the local fishing community and other stakeholders about how important parrotfish are to the reef ecosystem—and the urgent need to protect them. It’s the first step toward our eventual goal of a legal ban on catching parrotfish.
