Board greenlights eight new Seacology projects

On February 9th, Seacology’s Board of Directors voted to approve eight new projects around the world, including a new foray into Haiti and several others in Southeast Asia and the Caribbean.

Signage and touch tanks in support of the ongoing conservation of the 17,000-acre San Salvador Island Protected Areas

Alejandro Selkirk Island, Juan Fernández Archipelago, Chile
Construction of an environmental education and volunteer center in support of a long-term environmental education program and elimination of invasive plants from a five-hectare (12.4-acre) area on Alejandro Selkirk Island

Tafunsak, Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia
Meeting house and recreational huts, in exchange for a 594-hectare (1,468-acre) marine and mangrove reserve, as a no-take area in perpetuity, Tafunsak community, Kosrae State

Ant Atoll, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia
Solar power system for ranger station on Ant Atoll, Pohnpei State, in support of making four marine protected areas, totaling 3,395 hectares (8,388 acres), no-take zones in perpetuity

Caracol Bay, Haiti
Protection of biodiversity through education and training, sustainable livelihoods initiatives, community-based park ranger training and mangrove reforestation/rehabilitation, Caracol Bay

Sahang–Pangajid Forest , Borneo, Indonesia
Nut oil processing machine, communications equipment, and construction of a small building, in support of conservation of 100 hectares (247 acres) of lowland forest for 10 years in the Pangajid Forest Area, Borneo

Taal Lake, Luzon Island, Philippines
Repair and improvement of the Taal Lake Conservation Center in support of a 1,000-hectare (2,471-acre) fish sanctuary, Barangay Pinaghulugan, Municipality of Mataasnakahoy, Batangas Province, Luzon Island
