Built by the community, this outpost is constructed of local materials and knowledge. Because the outpost floats on a pontoon of bamboo, it is easily moved throughout the Ngermasech Conservation Area. This floating outpost is anchored in the conservation area, and houses up to four officers comfortably. There is a solar panel on top to provide energy for locator lights and recharge batteries, a gas stove to fix meals and a fresh water catchment system. The pontoon is completely self-sufficient to conduct the necessary 24-hour monitoring. Ngermasech Marine and Mangrove Conservation Area, Ngardmau State, Babeldaob Island, Palau (May 2005).
