Seacology Visits the White House
To celebrate the millennium the White House has been hosting a small number of forums on some of the major issues of the twenty first century. As part of this series the White House hosted a Millennium Matinee on marine exploration. Very few members of the non-profit environmental community were present, so we were honored that Executive Director Duane Silverstein was invited to represent Seacology.
"I was pleased to be able to discuss the important work of Seacology with President Clinton who expressed his support for our efforts," said Silverstein. "In addition to speaking with the President I was also able to discuss Seacology with many distinguished individuals who were present such as the honorable Shunji Yanai, Japan's ambassador to the United States, and noted marine biologist Jane Lubchenco. Everyone I spoke with shared my enthusiasm for the critical work Seacology is undertaking in islands throughout the globe." Seacology scientific advisory board member Sylvia Earle also attended this event.
