Seacology Announces New Expedition to Belize, January 2001
Supporters of Seacology are invited to join Executive Director Duane Silverstein and world renowned undersea explorer Sylvia Earle on a fascinating scuba diving trip to the islands of Belize from January 13-20, 2001. Belize has the largest barrier reef in the Western hemisphere. Due to its beautiful coral and marine life, Belize has been selected as one of the seven underwater wonders of the world. It is home to world famous dive sites such as Blue Hole, the world's largest blue hole, which was made famous by Jacques Cousteau in the 1970s. In the most recent survey of the readers of Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine Belize was rated near the top of the list in the following Caribbean categories: best overall destination, best fish life, best big animal dives and best wall diving. Belize is only a short flight from the U.S. mainland.
We are excited to announce that Seacology has chartered the Peter Hughes live-aboard dive boat the Wave Dancer for our exclusive use for this expedition. Peter Hughes is the world's most popular live-aboard dive operator. In addition to excellent diving the Wave Dancer is known for its high quality meals and service including air conditioned staterooms, private en suite bathrooms, hot fresh water showers, daily fresh room towels, etc. In fact, the Wave Dancer was selected by the readers of Rodale's Scuba Diving as one of the best live-aboards in the world. As many as five dives are planned each day: two in the morning, two in the afternoon and one at night.
Sylvia Earle, the world's most famous marine explorer and member of Seacology's scientific advisory board, will be joining us for the week of diving. While exploring the islands of Belize we will also be meeting with Seacology island advisory board member Janet Gibson, one of Belize's leading environmentalists.
Estimated prices for this Seacology expedition, which are subject to change, are $1,940 for Master Staterooms, $1,840 for Deluxe Staterooms and $1,740 for Twin Staterooms. These prices are per person based on double occupancy. Single staterooms are charged at 175% of the aforementioned rates. These charges include seven nights on board the Wave Dancer, all meals and beverages, airport transfers in Belize City, five and one half days of diving, port charges and all other standard Dancer fleet services and amenities. These prices exclude airfare. This price does not include a $1,000 per person tax-deductible donation to Seacology. Participants will not only have a fascinating time but will be helping to preserve island environments and cultures as well. This contribution is waived for anyone who has donated $10,000 or more to Seacology.
The Wave Dancer has only 10 cabins. Our first expedition to Palau and Yap was so successful that four participants have already reserved spaces on this Belize trip. Reservations can only be made with a $1,000 non-refundable deposit with the balance due 90 days prior to departure. Checks should be made payable to Seacology.

Future Seacology expeditions are being planned for the Galapagos, Indonesia and the islands off of Australia. Priority will be given to those who have come on a previous Seacology expedition.
