Seacology Welcomes New Field Representative for Panama

Lenin RiquelmeSeacology is excited to introduce our newest field representative, Lenin Riquelme, who will be representing Seacology in his native Panama. With a Political Science Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master´s in Latin American Studies/Conservation & Development from the University of Florida, as well as a 15 year career in conservation, Lenin will be helping Seacology expand our island projects in Central America. His previous experience includes working for USAID’s Panama office as environmental specialist for the Panama Canal Watershed and as Director for Environmental Policy and Planning for Panama’s National Environmental Authority (ANAM). He also worked as an environmental advisor for The Nature Conservancy in Panama and as Institutiona Development Officer at Panama´s National Association for the Conservation of Nature. In 2005 he founded Fundación Conservacion, Naturaleza y Vida (CONAVI), an NGO that focuses its activities in coastal conservation and indigenous peoples´ rights. Since then, he has conducted research on the Antillean Manatee and sea turtles, successfully advocating for the reinforcement of conservation laws protecting these species. Through CONAVI, he assisted the Embera Indigenous Peoples Congress to achieve legal rights to their traditional land. Lenin dedicates most of his free time to traveling with his wife Dayana and beloved daughters Lia and Mileny. We welcome Lenin to Seacology!
